Dutch Oven Cheesy Potatoes

My family went camping recently and we tried out this recipe at our campsite. We are so glad we did! This recipe is awesome for camping (or any other time for that matter)! It is quick and easy to get going and when it is done it tastes ohhhhh so good! I found this recipe on a website called 50 Camp Fires. The original recipe calls for onions as well, and I even had onions with me, I just forgot to cut them up and put them in with the rest of the ingredients until it was to late. I love good onions, so next time I make it I will likely add the onions too… but I wanted the recipe listed below to represent what we had on our recent camping trip. It was delicious!

Instructions
  1. Start by slicing your potatoes, cubed, fairly small.
  2. Spray the dutch oven with Pam or spread some of the butter in the pan.
  3. Pour in the potatoes, then spread the cheese and the bacon evenly. Then cut up the stick of butter into about 6 pieces and put on top.
  4. Cover the dutch oven and cook for 40 - 45 minutes over open flame, or until the potatoes are soft. (Or 45 minutes at 375 in an oven)

One more tip, if you use a painted dutch oven like I did, you need to lather up the sides and bottom with Dawn dish soap to make the black easier to clean after they cook. Your best bet (which I plan to do next time) is get a Camp Chef Dutch Oven like this one and not have to worry about it.
