Compassion International exists as a Christian child advocacy ministry that releases children from spiritual, economic, social and physical poverty and enables them to become responsible, fulfilled Christian adults.

Founded by the Rev. Everett Swanson in 1952, Compassion began providing Korean War orphans with food, shelter, education and health care, as well as Christian training.

Today, Compassion helps more than 1.4 million children in 26 countries.

Compassion has 4 programs that provide aide to different groups. They are Complimentary Interventions, Child Survival, Child Sponsorship and Leadership Development.

The largest program and the program that Compassion was built around is the Child Development and Sponsorship Program. This is what we are known for. Sponsors from our 11 partner countries choose a child from one of our 26 sponsored countries between the ages of 3 and 18 to sponsor. Watch the video below to learn more about child sponsorship.
